Maskne? Skincare Tips

Hi friends!

I thought that since the New Year is coming in, that we would continue with the theme of self-care. Maskne is the new topic of 2020 thanks to having to wear masks all the time. I have to wear a mask for 8 hours a day with work alone, sometimes more if I have stores to stop at, etc. For no longer being a teenager, my skin still seems to be the problem child in my life. Add masks on top of that and forget it– my skin freaks! I thought that I would compile a list of some of my go-to skincare tips and tricks that have helped me slightly combat maskne! These are my own opinions and what has helped me, although I do have a cosmetology background where I learned a little about skincare.

1.) Actually wash your face every single day/night! I know this may seem stupid and people are probably thinking, “why would you even have to include this?” but I know that there are some ladies out there that can relate when I say that we have all had those nights that the makeup was just staying on and we were going straight to bed without washing our face. As I have gotten older, I know how bad this can be for your skin and this has become a top priority for me when it comes to my daily skincare routine. Wash all of those mask germs off!

2.) If you are using a reusable mask, make sure to wash it after every single use, especially if you are wearing makeup under it! This step doesn’t really need much explanation but if we are putting something dirty on our face, that is not good for helping to keep your complexion clear.

3.) Stay hydrated! I specifically drink lemon water throughout the morning and sometimes day. I feel like the masks dry everything out on my face and lemon water is known to help prevent against dryness and perhaps even wrinkles. The winter air brings enough dryness as is, so staying hydrated is a must! If you are looking for a great water bottle to keep you on track, search water bottle with time marker on Amazon.

4.) Exfoliate to remove that dead, dry, nasty skin. As previously mentioned, I know how dry winter and masks can make the skin. Finding a great exfoliator to help remove the dry skin on your face, along with one for your body will help to remove all of those dead skin cells.

5.) Clean your makeup brushes!! This is something that I used to be really bad at but not only does keeping your makeup brushes clean help to keep your skin clear, it also helps your makeup to apply better a well. This picture of the cleaner is so easy to use and I highly recommend it if you are looking for an easy way to clean your brushes!

6.) I have switched to micellar water to help remove mascara and other makeup spots that do not want to come off while washing my face instead of the other makeup remover wipes. You can definitely do the research for yourself on micellar water but people are raving about it. I have been using it for a few months now and I have to say that I love it. It is very gentle on the skin and some people even use it all over as a toner.

7.) Some of the masks tend to feel like they are really pulling on the sides of your face which means the thing most people are afraid of, wrinkles! I have started to use an eye cream to keep my eyes moisturized and to help prevent against some of these wrinkles. I wish that I started using eye cream earlier and if I had one tip for young girls, it would be to take care of your skin from a young age so that you can prevent your skin from prematurely aging.

8.) Last but not least, embrace your natural skin! I know that so many of us women in particular use makeup to hide our imperfections, red spots, acne, and dark circles but learn to embrace your skin! I know it can be hard but honestly this pandemic has taught me to embrace my imperfections on my face. I know we live in the era of filters, photoshop, etc. but you are beautiful with or without makeup. For a majority of the pandemic, I completely stopped wearing makeup to work because I was trying to help my skin breath under the mask and to prevent my pores from clogging due to the makeup buildup under the mask. Sometimes the best thing that we can do for our skin is to give it a break and just throw some sunscreen on it to protect it and give us a natural, beautiful glow.

If you made it this far, thank you so much for reading! I know this was a little bit of a long post but skin makes up our whole body and it is important to take care of it! These are some of my tips and tricks that have helped fight against mascne! Hopefully one day we will be able to leave our houses without having to wear masks again! Leave a comment below on your favorite part of your skincare routine! We are all looking for some new tips here!

xoxo, Bri
