Tea Thursday- Journaling- The Adult Diary

Happy Thursday to all my beautiful friends! Welcome to “Tea Thursday”. This is not the type of tea you would normally think of people participating in, like spilling the juicy tea as the younger crowds would say. But this is about sharing the tea on a variety of fun topics. This day of the week is dedicated to spilling the tea on lifestyle, home décor, fashion, beauty, health and wellness, the list goes on. For this first week I wanted to share all about journaling and five reasons why I think you should do it! I know when most people think of journaling, we think back to our middle school days of keeping a diary stocked with our juicy secrets, who our crush was, locking it with those tiny locks, and stashing it in our drawer beneath all our clothes. Don’t get me wrong, I have found a few of my old diaries and they definitely make for some entertaining reading, but journaling as an adult is completely different. Let’s jump into the top reasons why writing down your feelings/goals is a good thing.

Gives you accountability. I am a big supporter of writing down your goals/ideas. Writing items like this down will help you not only set goals but allow you to write out intentional plans to help guide your steps you need to take to achieve those goals. There is something about writing things down. It is easy to let things slip to the back of our minds even with the best of intentions if we say we are going to do something. Having things in writing is going to help you stay focused and remind you of what tasks are most important to you.

Watch how much you grow. This could be on a personal level but also on a professional level as well. We just talked about how important it is to write down those goals but think about how much you will be able to see yourself grow if you are writing things down. What once starts out as a small idea could bloom into a full-on adventure. You will be so happy you wrote things down to measure your growth one day. Sometimes we do not always recognize and appreciate all the small steps we take. Journaling will help you really soak in every step you take and allow you to focus on the bigger picture because you really will see how far you have come.

Talk about your feelings. It is healthy to talk about your feelings and sometimes we just don’t feel like talking to others about those feelings all the time. While I do not think it is healthy to stay closed to people, I also recognize and understand that sometimes we do not want to burden others with our feelings or sound like we are just complaining. Journaling on a personal level allows you to have a safe space to get those feelings out and it allows us to leave them on the page, close the book, and move on from those feelings. Of course, there will also be some good feelings that we want to share. I think it is important to stay in tune with your feelings. Validate your feelings and know that it is ok to feel emotions and express those whether good or bad.

Gain creativity. A journal is a personal item that belongs to you and only you. That is unless you decide to share it with someone else. Since journaling is such a private thing that we do by ourselves, it allows us to fully let go. Some people will never understand your ideas and that is ok. To grow it is necessary to dream big dreams and set yourself up to achieve what other people think is impossible. Write down every single idea you have, no matter how crazy it may sound. Sure, some ideas you will ditch and throw to the curb, but some of them will turn into something so big for you. Creativity is a gift and if you have it, go with it and write down your best ideas and watch what happens!

Grow your self-confidence. The person you could be most true with is yourself. You really are your main supporter, and you are going to be the person who really grows your confidence. Being honest with yourself is such a great way to boost the way you view yourself. Writing down feelings, ideas, the good and the bad, will really help you to grow in so many ways.

Journaling is something that helps me. I love to write, so it is something that is a treat, almost like a hobby. Wake up early in the morning and start a gratitude journal, write late at night to reflect on your day, start a collection of ideas for your business/career goals, or write just to let it all out. There are so many different types of journals, but I can almost guarantee that you will feel so much better finding ways to express yourself.
