Happy Mom Monday to all of my beautiful friends! I decided for today’s blog that it would be fun to talk about pandemic friendly date nights. I know that we are all doing our best to keep each other safe during this crazy time and date nights just aren’t the same as they used to be, but that doesn’t mean they can’t be just as fun! My husband and I were just talking about ways that we could spice date night up at home! Parents definitely need a break and we compiled a list of at home date night ideas for when your littles go to sleep!
1.) Mike’s pick- The first one is movie night at home with all of the traditional movie snacks! Make a list of a few movies where you and your partner write them down and pull from a hat to choose a fun movie to watch. Stop at Target or Walgreens and pick up some move style candy boxes (these are so cheap btw)! The other thing that we love to do when the movie theaters are open is to go and buy a giant popcorn from there and bring it home to eat while we watch our movie because let’s be real– movie theater popcorn is the best! Set up some blankets, pillows and cushions on the floor and enjoy a fort style movie night!
2.) Bri’s pick- Picked a themed meal and go all out. If you want to have Italian night, whip up a classic meal, play some Frank Sinatra music in the background and turn your dining room into your own personal restaurant. If you love Mexican food, set up a taco bar, play some mariachi band music and make some fun frozen drinks. Setting the mood and going all out with a theme will make it feel like you are actually on a date night! We love a themed meal in this house because we love all different types of cuisines. We have not ate out that much during quarantine, so we like to spice it up and really try a variety of meals when it comes to our themed nights.
3.) Mike’s pick- have a pub themed night! Come up with some fun cocktails to make and make up a few appetizers to share. Everyone loves to eat yummy appetizers and it swill switch up the traditional meals. Before the pandemic, Mike and I loved just sitting at a bar and grabbing some small plates to share.
4.) Bri’s pick- Have a game night! Pull out all of your old board games, play video games, whatever games you find fun, bust them all out and have a game night! If you really want to feel like you are back in normal times, find some games that you can play with a group and set up a zoom call with some of your friends and have a fun date night with friends!
5.) Both of our pick- Charcuterie board and card night! We love a good charcuterie board in our house and we love nothing more than a good night of snacking! Hit up the store buy all of your fave cheese, bread, crackers, fruits and load that board up! Pair with a yummy glass of wine and play your favorite card game. It is so easy to get wrapped up in social media and being on your phone. Having a fun card game to focus on will allow you to spend some quality time with your partner and chill out without the technology.
6.) Both of our pick- When it is warm outside we spend all of our time outdoors. We are outdoor people! So, if you live somewhere warm, get outside have a bonfire themed night. Play some music, start a bonfire, grab some stuff to make smores and grill and just enjoy being outside! Something about getting outdoors makes everyone feel so much better!
I hope you guys enjoyed this blog! I know how hard it can be for parents to take a break, but don’t forget you need one every once in a while in order to feel refreshed and to allow yourself to be the best parent. I also realize that it is hard to head out with your kiddos during this pandemic and it is harder to get around to those “normal” date nights. My husband and I often joke that our date nights now consist of going to the grocery store together about once a month when we get a babysitter for that one day! That’s why I thought it would be fun to compile a little list of at home date nights! Plan a fun night for you and your partner and make the most of these at home date nights!
If you have a fun at home date night idea you want to share, leave it in the comments below!
xoxo, Bri
