Hi friends!
I am excited to be back with a new blog and a new perspective! This whole year has been nuts for all of us and I am sure that everyone is ready for a fresh start. Although I have not been completely quarantined due to the fact that I have been working throughout this pandemic, I have still had a lot of time to reflect. This whole time has made me think about what is important to me and my life and I have started to realize now more than ever that self- care is so important. This can mean different things to all of us but I thought I would share some of my favorite self-care routines that I am trying to implement no matter how busy and crazy life gets.
I am sure many of us have heard the saying “your body is a temple” and even though it is one of those overused sayings, it is so true! I mean if you really sit and think about it, we only have one body to get us through this life. I have realized that exercise is so important, not only for your physical health, but your mental health as well. I know that life can get busy and it is very hard to fit a very intense workout routine into your daily life, but I found some great options that make it easier to get a quick workout in. If you don’t have time to head to the gym, find a YouTube video and search for 20 minute workouts, or search for a yoga routine, throw some headphones on and walk up and down the driveway. The possibilities of finding free workout videos on YouTube are endless. Starting your morning by working out really helps to boost your energy and will set a great tone for your day. Most importantly, it will boost your health and confidence in so many ways!
Following on the saying of your body being a temple, I am starting to realize the importance of eating healthier. Don’t get me wrong, I am not miss perfect over here and I definitely have many days where I binge a bunch of candy, pop, chips, especially around the holidays. While I do find it necessary to treat yourself every once in a while, incorporating healthier food options into your daily routine will make such a big difference in your overall health, both in the short-term and also long-term.
Drink water! I will admit that I am not the best at staying hydrated sometimes! I love tea, pop and coffee. I have been making a conscience effort to drink a big glass of lemon water every single morning. Lemon water has so many amazing benefits but just staying hydrated with water in general will improve your overall health!
Take time for yourself. I am a mom, I work full-time, and then work from when I get home with my household duties until I go to bed. I get that life is busy. I get that for many of us taking time for ourselves is not the easiest thing to do, but it is necessary for our happiness. Even if you have to wait till your kids go to bed, take time to do whatever makes you happy. Whether it is binge-watching your favorite show, reading a book, or crafting. Take time for your self. Taking time to do something that makes you happy throughout your day, will make you a better person for yourself and your family.
Make an effort for less screen time. I know that we live in a world that is controlled by technology but I do not want my son to grow up seeing his mom attached to her phone 24/7. Social media is amazing to keep in touch with people but it should not be the source of our joy throughout the day. Take time to live in the moment and try not to live through other people’s social media accounts because you can’t get time back that is lost and you do not want to look back one day and think that you spent all your time online.
Keep your faith. I know this has been a crazy year and one of my most important parts of my day is practicing my faith. I like to listen to faith based podcasts while I am getting ready for work, read my bible at night before bed, and spend time in prayer. Faith is necessary for all times of life but it is definitely important during such crazy times.
While these may seem like pretty basic things that we all should practice already, it is not always the easiest to practice self-care, especially if you have a family to take care of. I am the type of person where I like to write things down to hold myself accountable for the actions that I am wanting to take. It is very easy for me to throw words in the air and say that I am going to do things but when I write it down and look at it daily, I feel more accountability to make sure that I am making time for the things that are important to my life.
I started with these few small steps and have been trying to create a more healthy lifestyle for myself and my family. I am not perfect, I mess up and have bad days. We all do. Take time for yourself to practice self-care and take this opportunity to start practicing things that will benefit you. Ironically we are coming upon a new year, but always remember that you do not need a new year to create a better you or make changes.
Leave me and other readers a comment below on what you like to do for self-care. Stay tuned because there are going to be some really awesome lifestyle blogs coming soon!
Happy New Year!
xoxo, Bri

All of your tips are so good but yet so basic. I forget to do almost all of them but let me add to pamper yourself at least once a week and to get some really good sleep.
